Innis-Gérin Medal

for a distinguished and sustained contribution to the literature of the social sciences

RSC established a medal in 1966 to honour economic historian Harold A. Innis (1894-1952), FRSC and sociologist Léon Gérin (1863-1951), FRSC, who were Presidents of RSC from 1946-1947 and 1933-1934 respectively.

The medal is awarded for a distinguished and sustained contribution to the literature of the social sciences including human geography and social psychology. The bronze medal is offered every two years if there is a suitable candidate.

The selection committee consists of six Fellows from the Academy of Social Sciences, three from each of the two divisions. Each committee member shall serve for four years (two awards) and the senior committee member, by rotation, shall act as Chair.
