Nomination and Election Process
The Royal Society of Canada (RSC) is composed of over 2000 Fellows and welcomes approximately 80 new Fellows annually.
A newly elected Fellow will have successfully undergone the following steps of the nomination and election process:
- Nomination by one’s peers (deadline December 1st)
- Review of nomination dossier for completeness by the RSC Secretariat (January)
- Review by the appropriate Division Committee for the Selection of new Fellows and recommendation to its parent Academy (February)
- Review of the Division Committee recommendation by the appropriate Academy Committee for the Selection of new Fellows and recommendation to the Council of the RSC (March)
- Review of the Academy Committee recommendation by the Council of the RSC for inclusion in the final list of candidates to be placed before the fellowship for election (April)
- Election by existing Fellows of the RSC from the ballot of candidates for new Fellows (May/June)
- Notification to successful candidates of their election and formal offer of fellowship (July)
- Induction of new Fellows into the RSC (November)
